It was many many years ago that a priest came to speak at my childhood parish about Food for the Poor. I cannot remember his name but his talk about Haiti and the poor really made me realize how blessed I am. I wanted to give to those less fortunate than me. It is not much but I am glad to help out. I hope that the donations make an impact on these families by providing the food they need to live. With all the abundance in this world, no one should go hungry. Every time I get a mailing on what a donation can do for the poor it makes me feel that I am having some impact. I give monthly through an automatic payment so the mailings are not really necessary anymore and maybe they can save some money on that. I remember singing the song in church “whatsoever you do to the least of my brother’s that you do unto me…

Thinking “Well wishes will bestow for those in need of food” does not yield food. Beyond the encouragement these charity’s provide, actual resources are delivered and verified through the appropriate channels.
As well, The mailings I received had concise information, and did not contain unnecessary bulk. I take that as a testament to the Charity’s forward thinking, and limiting impact on the environment.
I hope that the family’s in need keep looking forward. Good faith shared amongst members or others, I think is best through means of moral understanding. Both Attributes are easily lost, But through organizations like Food for The poor, They are found again.

Deacon Stephen: Opportunity and Love realized
I was first introduced to FFTP by a Bishop who was a clergy speaker at one of my assigned parishes. I was very moved by his witness of the sufferings of the people of South America. After praying about the my potential involvement with FFTP I called and accepted an invitation to a mission trip to Haiti. I went on the trip in late 2009, 3 weeks before that devastating earthquake. For me, that trip to Haiti was my first experience with profound and extreme poverty. I was shocked at witnessing the complete lack of opportunities especially for women and girls. However, I also moved by the generosity of the people and the deep faith they had in God with the belief they would be provided for.
After the earthquake in January of 2010, I prayed to God asking for a sign of how I could assist the people of Haiti. A few weeks later I was approached by a Baptist couple who had heard that I had been to Haiti and told me of a property they had in Haiti. It was a home and another building that was used as a church. The compound already had cement block walls and a steel door around it. I told them that I would love to use the property as an orphanage for girls who had lost their parents in the earthquake. They agreed and we went down to Haiti and found 30 girls who were in extreme need of care. For the past 15 years they have been cared for with food, fresh clean water, clothing, housing, education, and an income source, medical needs and spiritual and psychological counseling.
This is the all encompassing assistance I know that FFTP will provide for all those that are served. I am confident FFTP will continue to address all levels of poverty as we provide opportunity and love to all we assist.
My Story
I was listening to the radio one day, when I heard about FFTP. I thought to myself about helping another person in need. My hopes for the families are that they thrive in education and health.

John: On a mission in Jamaica
I became involved through St. Gabriel’s Church in Kansas City, who adopted St. Gabriel’s in Balaclava, Jamaica. We worked with Fr. Arokiasamy and the Missionaries of Charity Home for aged for summers for 13 years We also helped build Food For Poor houses in Balaclava area, as well as rebuilding some of existing structures in poor condition. We also did maintenance work for Missionaries of Charity. Being in a Retirement Community, we now have a dinning room attendant who stated she worked for Food For The Poor and knows of this area.
